Creating Power Lines

Power lines are common in virtually any setting and can add a lot of realism to a scene. Dynamic Power lines are planned which will do the work for you, but for the time being this will be the best way to accomplish this.

Bring in a utility pole.

You will want to turn on Snap -- Point for the next steps. Found in this menu:

Add a point, so your line can attach to it. Place the point at the end of the pole.

Press your spacebar to recall the last draw object, and just place two more points on the same point. It will snap to this point, making sure that it’s in the same X/Y position. Click on the point (it will select only one of them for you) and change the elevation to match the second arm. Do the same for the third arm.

Multi-select all three points (while holding shift) then copy and paste. Multi select the pasted points-- this time you can probably use the "Select Area" tool because the points are far enough away from the pole-- and move them to match the other side of the pole.

Now select area so you get the pole and the points all in one and you can copy and paste that. Remember, when moving this pole you will have to always select all points as well to avoid losing the attach points for the line.

With your poles created, it’s time to create the power lines. Select the line tool and place your first line from one pole to the next. Change the desired line options in the left panel, then click "Save As Default".

Press your spacebar to recall the line-- now with your desired defaults-- and place the rest of your power lines.
